CartiHeal creates buzz at recent ICRS meeting in Germany

The International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society (ICRS), hosted their 2022 World Congress in Berlin last week. Coming off the heels of FDA approval of the Agili-C device, as well as Bioventus exercising the call option to acquire CartiHeal, the timing of this important conference couldn’t have been better. A team of Bioventus employees were in attendance including Sarah Caley, Steven Moore, Vivek Munshi, Onno Siegersma and Drew Zabor. It was an incredible week partnering with the CartiHeal team and meeting with the global surgeon and scientific leaders of cartilage repair.

CartiHeal had an impressive five abstracts accepted which highlighted the results from the recently completed pivotal study.

Furthermore, they received the ‘Best Rated Abstract’ award for the abstract titled “Aragonite-Based Scaffold Provides Superior Clinical Outcome Compared to Debridement/Microfracture: Multi-Center, RCT”, presented by Dr. Andreas Gomoll from HSS in New York.

Beyond the abstracts, another noteworthy event included an extremely well attended Bioventus-sponsored reception for the ICRS NextGen Committee in support of their mission to identify and facilitate the development of next generation cartilage surgeons and scientific leaders. Additionally, Dr. Elizaveta Kon, one of the participating surgeons from the pivotal study, based in Milan, Italy, was named the new President of ICRS.

There was a palpable buzz and excitement around CartiHeal and Bioventus, and many ICRS members mentioned how eager they were to begin using this breakthrough technology to help their patients get back to an active lifestyle. The Bioventus team plans to build on the momentum from ICRS as we look to finalize the acquisition of CartiHeal in Q2, begin the US limited market release in Q3, and continue planning for OUS markets.
