A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words – United Wheelchair Rugby Team and Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry
Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry
Adrianne Brown, Director of Customer Service, volunteers with the Shelby County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., of which she is a member, to support the Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry.
Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing diapers to families in need. The Memphis branch is one of only two diaper banks servicing the state of Tennessee. They have donated over 500,000 diapers to 5,000 families in need since 2014. Her Chapter invited the community to drop off donations on the parking lot of one of our partner churches in our service area on MLK Day. Our diaper drive collected not only diapers of all sizes, but also collected baby formula and feminine products.
“We had vans and car loads of donations that we personally delivered to the Sweet Cheeks warehouse for distribution,” Ms. Brown said. “It was a great day.”
United Wheelchair Rugby Team
“I am the head coach of the United Wheelchair Rugby Team, which serves the greater Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland areas,” said Ryan Cusack, Clinical Specialist in Virginia for the Rehab Division. “I began as a regular volunteer when I was working as an outpatient neuro physical therapist. After about six months of volunteering, I was asked to be the head coach of the team. This has been my role with the team over the past four years.”
“Wheelchair rugby is the only full contact sport played in wheelchairs. It is for athletes impacted by quadriplegia (congenital and acquired), including those with spinal cord injury and polytrauma with multiple limb loss,” Mr. Cusack said. “The sport is incredibly competitive, but also serves a greater purpose to rebuild those that were once broken. Participation in the sport alone leads to greater independence and quality of life.”
“Believe it or not, almost all of my players have used Bioventus rehab products (typically the L300 Go and H200 Wireless) at some point in their recovery,” he said. “The players on the team are very grateful for our products. It has been a life changing opportunity for me.”
