Bioventus European Championship of Football Prediction Game Brings International Team Together

Christiaan Lems and Kirsten van Klinken developed the idea after the success of virtual Pub Quizzes during the pandemic. The International business was looking for more ways to stay connected as spikes in Covid kept Canadian provinces like Ontario and countries like the UK, Netherlands and Germany in various states of lockdown mode.

“We wanted to expand this shared fun to the upcoming European Championship of Football,” said Christiaan. “The tournament had been rescheduled to 2021 due to the worldwide pandemic, but it was finally time to enjoy some international football and most importantly enjoy it together.”

The outcome of EURO 2020, which took place from June 11 to July 11, saw England taking on Italy in the final match with Italy winning on penalty kicks.

Christiaan Lems and Bastian Navie take in a Euro 2020 match together in the Hoofddorp office.

In addition to the finalists teams from Turkey, Wales, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Russia, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, North Macedonia, Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Portugal, France and Germany were in the tournament.

Just a bit trickier than a March Madness NCAA Basketball Bracket in the US

Christiaan set up a prediction game where anyone invited could join the Bioventus International private league.  Participants were asked to predict all matches, as well as who would be crowned with the European Championship title. This even included predicting the four top scorers in the group phase as well as top scorers for each knockout round.

The private tournament saw 25 International colleagues participate in the Bioventus International League with Vincent Bois of Canada coming out on top as the winner, and Harald Weebers from the Hoofddorp office running a close 2nd. Vincent gets a special trophy to recognize the win.
