CEO Award Winners Honored by Tony Bihl and ELT
Tony Bihl’s last important act as our CEO was, with the help of the ELT, handing out 85 awards to 68 of our Bioventus colleagues for outstanding work in 2019. In addition, among those 85 awards were 17 major award winners. That is a great high note to hit as Tony heads to retirement. Let’s recap the big winners.
The Ultimate Team Player in 2019 is Drew Sullivan. Last year, Drew graciously stepped into the role of the unblinded monitor in the BONES trial, on top of his daily activities. In 2019, only he reviewed and quality checked almost 1,600 records in a timely and accurate manner. When we were faced with the need to expedite a crucially important and unplanned toxicology study requested by the FDA, Drew, with the invaluable help of Kimberly Cox from procurement, stepped in and took it upon himself to manage every aspect of the process of identifying a toxicology vendor in the last three months of the year.
Our 2019 Philanthropy Award Winner is Christine Faressa. Christine has launched a charity that is focused on autistic parents and helping them through the unexpected. Sun, Moon & Stars became a non-profit about 18 months ago, and funds raised are directed to children’s social events including meeting Santa, Halloween, supper clubs, swim club, and Project Puzzle Piece, which is a Special Olympics program to socialize, build friendship, and tackle challenges all while participating in a sport. Running a volunteer organization with such an ambitious mission and consistently running a successful Bioventus territory is an incredible accomplishment! If you follow Christine on LinkedIn, you will quickly realize the difference she is making in the many parents and children’s lives who are living with Autism.
This year, we have a team of Key Innovator Award winners that come from the Amniotic Launch Team in Durham. Kelly Buddin, Carl Flannery, Derek Hurdle, MK Kottke, Scott Seaman, Irene Shupe, Jason Siegfried and Neill Pounder all worked together with a collective focus, competence, dedication, trust, and optimism to get a product ready for testing in a human patient. It takes a great team to do this working with a partner in another state, with an active contract and a working lab for only half of the year. We congratulate this team as it takes great minds and great hearts to accomplish all this, and never stop caring and striving for the best every step of the way.
In addition, we have another team selected as the Major Impact Award winners. This group was recognized for the first internally developed tissue product at Bioventus, made possible through our partnership with LifeLink. The product, OSTEOAMP Select Fibers, launched last year. It reinvigorated the OSTEOAMP product line, met the needs from the market on handling of granules and putty products, and boosted sales for the Surgical business. This new offering drove strong re-engagement of legacy distributors that successfully grew our Fibers offering while minimizing cannibalization of other formats of OSTEOAMP. In addition to that, a strong marketing strategy and proactive lifecycle and price management approach from the team delivered sales of $8.4 million, a 40% over performance against the 2019 budget of $6 million. The members of this team are Natalie Biscarret, Stuart Lindquist, Steven Moore, Scott Seaman, Jason Siegfried, Robin White and Drew Zabor.
