October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
We are going to take this time to remind you how important Cybersecurity Awareness is and why it is something that our company and employees should take seriously. Cybersecurity Awareness is a matter of cultural challenge and behavioral changes.
Getting people to act is the primary challenge; usually they will act only when they have been exposed to security problems, or somebody they know has been. The earlier the education starts, the stronger the effects on users’ Internet behavior.
Here are just five reasons why we invest in security awareness training (although I could give you hundreds). These are not our numbers, but global statistics.
- Cyber crime is costing organizations, on average, $11.7 million per year.
- 1 in 5 people share passwords over text or email.
- 55% admitted to clicking on links the did not recognize.
- 90% of security incidents involve human error.
- 1 in 3 prioritize a fast internet connection over a secure one.
If you are interested in some of our numbers, Industry benchmark for a company our size has a phish-prone rate of 5.2%, we have an average of around 6.7%. Down substantially from the 60+% that we had before implementing Security Awareness Training.
Great job everyone! You are making a big difference!
Your IT Security Team.
