A key attribute of continuous improvement is the ability to consistently reevaluate our assumptions of “what we know” as fact or truth to be sure it is still actually the case and that facts or circumstances have not changed making our prior decisions no longer valid or even correct. This is particularly important in the Learning culture we are striving for where we want to consistently adapt our growing and changing business environment and incorporate any new and changing facts into our decision making process! The technique of “thinking again” or the ability to rethink certain beliefs or past decisions is captured well in a book I just read aptly titled Think Again. We all can get married to our ingrained beliefs, certainly myself included, and the ability to rethink or relearn using a defined new set of facts instead of emotions or old data is a key element of success.
This is particularly relevant this time of year at Bioventus when we are finalizing budgets and plans for 2022. Our ability to be agile, utilize new data/facts and adopt to our new set of circumstances is a critical part of our ability to be successful. Speed in decision making and execution needs to be a hallmark at Bioventus. Our ability to quickly outflank sometimes larger competition with resiliency, focus and committed resources is a critical part of our “special sauce” that makes Bioventus successful and a leader in our markets. The ability to drive levers of success in our business can be found all across our organization. A lever of success is a focused and committed initiative, backed by strong data and possibly even piloted data that we know will drive our business forward. As we finalize our 2022 AOP (Annual Operating Plan) let’s make sure the levers of success we are identifying and ultimately funding in our budget are ones that are well understood and that will set us up for ultimate success. I ask you to think again to make sure that is the case.
We will hold our Executive Team offsite this week in Memphis and look forward to seeing the Memphis team during an all employee lunch on Tuesday. I am sure Memphis barbeque (and some healthier food too) will be on the menu;)!
This is also a big week in the process of working toward the closing of the Misonix acquisition as we will hold a special shareholders meeting to formally endorse the acquisition of Misonix. More details to come as we move forward with this exciting step!
